Anthony Edwards Says Goal Is To Remain With Timberwolves ‘My Whole Career’

The Timberwolves made a big move this offseason, trading Karl-Anthony Towns to the Knicks. But Anthony Edwards is still here and he insisted Minnesota is where he wants to stay for as long as he’s in the NBA.

“If I can, I’m trying to be here for my whole career,” Edwards said, via Jamal Collier of ESPN. “I ain’t trying to go nowhere.”

Edwards, 23, signed a five-year, $260 million extension with the Timberwolves during the 2023 offseason. So that right there showed a level of commitment by both Minnesota and Edwards. The Timberwolves also felt comfortable trading Towns after reaching the Western Conference finals, and the continued rise of the forever-confident Edwards is a major reason why.

He was already becoming the face of the franchise. Now, there is no doubt he is. Along with Edwards, the Timberwolves will go to bat with Rudy Gobert, Mike Conley and newcomers Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo.

Translation: Minnesota remains a formidable opponent and again a threat to emerge from the West.

That said, coach Chris Finch predicted that it may take a little time for all the newness to come together.

“There will be a pretty big learning curve,” he said, via Mark Medina of Athlon Sports. “I’m pretty confident that there are going to be rough edges that we want to smooth out.”

Then again, when you have talents like Edwards, you don’t have to worry too much about what changes around him.

“I wouldn’t say it’s a teardown,” Finch said. “Every year, we go into the season with the same kind of framework with what we want to try to do. But we feel like there’s enough flexibility to figure out what we might lean on.”
