As you know, the Cavaliers are 8-0. But how did they get here?
Well, if you’ve watched, you may already have it figured out. Just in case, though, I joined Chase Smith on the latest Cavs on the Break podcast to break it all down. Listen on Apple Podcasts here or in the player directly below.
Basically, when it comes to the Cavaliers, what’s not to like? New coach Kenny Atkinson is not only winning, but keeping the starters fresh for the long game. A lot of that not only has to do with the Core Four of Donovan Mitchell, Darius Garland, Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen, but the reserves as well.
And did you know that through the first seven games, the Cavs were just the second team in NBA history to go 7-0 with not a single player averaging 30 minutes a game? The only other time it happened was 1978, but the Seattle SuperSonics, who no longer exist. Those Sonics went on to win the championship that season.
Along with that, every team that has started 8-0 over the past 30 years has reached at least the conference finals. So hey man, Cleveland has a little history working in its favor.
Yes, there’s a long, long way to go. And even Atkinson himself has suggested that being undefeated at this time of year doesn’t mean a whole lot. But it sure beats the alternative, no?
