Knicks rookie shooting guard Quentin Grimes avoided the worst when an MRI revealed his knee injury will only keep him out in the neighborhood of 2-3 weeks, as first reported by Ashley Nicole Moss of SI Now and SNY.tv.
Grimes suffered the injury in the first quarter of the Knicks’ loss to the Heat on Friday. He needed help from teammates to leave the court, unable to put pressure on his right leg. He did not return to the game.
At first, it appeared it might be a more serious injury that would require surgery. But that does not appear to be the case.
SNY.tv’s Ian Begley wrote of Grimes, “[H]eard he was sore today but not as bad as would’ve been expected given subluxation. He was at facility today and walking around pretty well. Physical therapy will be pivotal in determining next steps.”
Grimes, 21, is 6-foot-5 and was selected by the Clippers with the No. 21 overall pick in the 2021 draft, then traded to the Knicks in a deal that involved fellow rookie Keon Johnson. Grimes is averaging 6.3 points in 40 appearances.
