Despite the Miami Heat’s ongoing trade efforts involving Jimmy Butler, the NBA market has been surprisingly quiet, according to Barry Jackson and Anthony Chiang of the Miami Herald.
After Butler’s suspension for conduct detrimental to the team, the Heat have yet to see any offers that truly spark their interest, per Jackson and Chiang.
Miami had initially planned to finish the season with Butler, believing the veteran forward would remain professional despite his intention to opt out of his hefty $52.4 million player option for the 2025-26 season.
Now, though, as the trade talks drag on, the Heat’s stance remains unchanged — unless something irresistible comes their way in the next week, expect Butler to rejoin the team next Friday against the Denver Nuggets.
Per the report, the Heat were never inclined to offer Butler an extension before the season. They had legitimate concerns about his ability to stay on the floor and the frequency of games missed, which played a big part in their decision to not engage in extension talks.
In hindsight, that decision may prove even more prudent now, Jackson and Chiang wrote, as Miami navigates the murky waters of Butler’s future with the team.
The front office is still holding firm, but one thing’s clear — if the right deal materializes, they’ll be ready to make a move. Until then, the Heat are preparing to welcome Butler back.
Per Jackson and Chiang: “With the Heat on an ongoing six-game Western swing, Butler has been back at Kaseya Center working out with three Heat staffers. His seven-game suspension runs through the final game of the road trip, next Wednesday at the Lakers.”
