Former Cavaliers point guard Kevin Pangos has not yet joined CSKA Moscow after Russia launched an attack on Ukraine, as relayed by BasketNews.
In all, six CSKA Moscow players have left the country since the invasion. That list includes former NBA center Joel Bolomboy.
Pangos, 29, was waived by the Cavs on Feb. 19. He signed a two-year deal with the Cavs prior to the season, with the first year of about $1.67 million guaranteed. The second year of the deal was to pay him $1.75 million.
Per ESPN’s Bobby Marks, Pangos agreed to a $100,000 contract buyout. He is one of four players to hit the NBA buyout market this season. Given that Pangos’ decision to join CSKA Moscow is on hold, he could always sign with another NBA club.
He never found a consistent role with the Cavs, appearing in just 24 games and averaging 1.6 points and 1.3 assists. Instead of using Pangos while Darius Garland has been injured, the Cavs turned to Rajon Rondo or two-way guard Brandon Goodwin, who has filled in admirably.
Pangos has widely been considered one of the best all-around guards in EuroLeague, averaging 13.9 points and 6.7 assists last year with Russian club Zenit.
A native of Canada, Pangos went undrafted after four seasons at Gonzaga in 2015, when he was named West Coast Conference Player of the Year.
