Spurs Sign Bismack Biyombo To Second 10-Day Deal

Veteran NBA center Bismack Biyombo has signed a second 10-day contract with the San Antonio Spurs, the team announced. It follows the expiration of his initial deal after Thursday’s win over the Phoenix Suns.Bismack Biyombo, Spurs, NBA

Biyombo, a former lottery pick in his 14th NBA season, joined the Spurs on February 9 under a 10-day contract. But due to the team’s schedule of only two games before the All-Star break, his contract extended through February 20, making it effectively a 12-day deal.

The 32-year-old big man, who has played for seven different teams in his career, did not see game action in his debut with the Spurs and played just 25 seconds in a loss to Boston before the break.

In a pivotal moment for the Spurs, Biyombo started in place of the injured Victor Wembanyama, who is out for the season due to a blood clot. Biyombo delivered a strong performance in the team’s 11-point victory over Phoenix, recording eight points on a perfect 4-of-4 shooting, three rebounds, and two assists in 16 minutes of action.

Though he stands at 6’8″, Biyombo’s impressive 7’6″-7’7″ wingspan makes him a formidable presence on both ends of the court, where he is known for his rebounding, shot-blocking, strength, and athleticism.

Before rejoining San Antonio, Biyombo was a free agent for the 2024-2025 season after spending last year with the Memphis Grizzlies and Oklahoma City Thunder. He appears to be ahead of Sandro Mamukelashvili on the Spurs’ frontcourt depth chart, and with fellow big man Charles Bassey currently day-to-day due to a knee injury, Biyombo’s role is expected to remain vital.

If the Spurs wish to retain Biyombo beyond his second 10-day contract, they must sign him to a rest-of-season deal, as NBA rules limit a player to two 10-day contracts with the same team in a season.
