Atlantic Notes: Bol, Payne, Simmons, Harden, Siakam

The Celtics are still getting recently acquired center Bol Bol up to speed as he recovers from foot surgery, as relayed by Brian Robb of MassLive.com.

As Robb noted, Bol has been taking part in pregame sessions and showing up to practice to watch and learn. Boston landed both Bol and guard PJ Dozier in a three-team trade with the Nuggets and Spurs last week. (Dozier remains away from the team as he’s out for the season with a torn ACL.)

“Bol has a chance to come back later in the year and just acclimate him to the group,” Celtics coach Ime Udoka said, via Robb. “Get him comfortable with guys and have him around for the most part until he’s able to start doing some activity on the court.”

More from the Atlantic

  • Knicks assistant Kenny Payne is a likely candidate for the Louisville coaching job, according to Seth Davis of The Athletic. Payne was a 1989 first-round pick out of Louisville. He has been an assistant with the Knicks since 2020, after spending a decade as an assistant coach at Kentucky.
  • In case you missed it, the 76ers are still exploring a variety of Ben Simmons trade possibilities ahead of the Feb. 10 deadline, but are especially locked in on Nets star James Harden. Landing Harden is something that would have to be accomplished in the offseason, though. You can read more about all that right here.
  • League sources tell Hoops Wire the Raptors are not looking to trade forward Pascal Siakam, despite some rumors to the contrary. That said, it is believed Siakam could be had closer to the deadline, assuming the Raptors get at least a promising young player and first-round pick in return.
