Blazers again linked to Giannis Antetokounmpo, Anthony Davis

The Trail Blazers may be preparing to make some noise this offseason.

Namely, Portland is “expected to emerge as a prime trade suitor” for Giannis Antetokounmpo, according to Jake Fischer of The Stein Line. That’s the second report linking the Blazers to Giannis.

It lines up with the broader direction in Portland. New owner Tom Dundon has drawn attention for cost-cutting moves, but he also built a reputation with the Carolina Hurricanes as someone willing to spend on players.

He said during his introductory press conference that he plans to be “more aggressive than most” when it comes to acquiring star talent.

The Blazers explored that path at the trade deadline. GM Joe Cronin recently said the team is open to a major move, but only “at the right price point.”

According to Fischer, a potential offer for Antetokounmpo would likely be built around Jerami Grant, who is owed roughly $70.6 million over the next two seasons, along with additional salary.

Landing Antetokounmpo could be complicated. Portland may not rank high on his preferred destinations, meaning the team would have to sell him on its long-term outlook.

If that path doesn’t materialize, another name has surfaced.

Fischer reports Anthony Davis could be a fallback option. Davis, now with the Washington Wizards, has already been mentioned in trade chatter again, with Chris Haynes suggesting he could be on the move before the season begins.
