NBA All-Star Damian Lillard wasted no time in putting his stamp on the Bucks’ season-opener and Giannis Antetokounmpo wasn’t far behind.
Lillard dropped 30 points in helping the Bucks secure a 124-109 victory over the shorthanded 76ers on Wednesday. Lillard’s 15-point explosion in the third quarter was crucial, and his all-around performance, including six 3-pointers, nine rebounds, and five assists, made it clear why Milwaukee is eager for this new era.
Alongside Antetokounmpo, who added 25 points and dominated the glass with 14 rebounds, the Bucks flexed their depth, getting double-digit scoring from six players.
Taurean Prince and Bobby Portis chipped in 16 points each, and Milwaukee knocked down 16 shots from beyond the arc, showing off a well-rounded offensive attack. While Lillard and Giannis are the stars, it’s this kind of balance that could elevate the Bucks to new heights this season.
On the Sixers’ side, Tyrese Maxey led the charge with 25 points, continuing to show his progression as a primary scorer. Andre Drummond stepped up with a double-double (13 points, 11 rebounds), but the absence of Joel Embiid and Paul George due to knee injuries left Philadelphia shorthanded. Without their stars, it was an uphill battle, but the Sixers still managed to keep things competitive before Milwaukee pulled away late.
