The Bucks are no longer shutting the door on Giannis Antetokounmpo trade conversations.
And the Antetokounmpo is open to a new home ahead of the Feb. 5 trade deadline, and several teams have already made aggressive offers, league sources told ESPN’s Shams Charania.
Multiple front offices now believe Milwaukee is more willing than ever to listen, though the Bucks are signaling they will not rush a deal unless their price is met, Charania reported.
That price, per sources, remains steep. Milwaukee is seeking a blue-chip young player and or a significant haul of draft capital. If those demands are not satisfied, the franchise is prepared to revisit trade talks in the offseason, when more teams may be able to offer premium picks.
Charania reported that behind the scenes, the two-time MVP has privately expressed for months that it may be time to part ways after more than a decade with the organization.
The Bucks, sitting outside the playoff picture and facing long-term roster questions, have engaged in open discussions with their franchise cornerstone about the future.
“I don’t know,” Antetokounmpo said recently when asked if he expects to finish the season in Milwaukee. “I take it day-by-day.”
He has also been blunt about the team’s struggles.
“We’re not playing hard,” Antetokounmpo said last week. “Our chemistry’s not there.”
Milwaukee retooled around him by stretching Damian Lillard’s contract to sign Myles Turner, but the roster has not stabilized. Antetokounmpo is currently sidelined with a calf strain, further complicating the Bucks’ short-term outlook.
A trade is not guaranteed. But for the first time in his career, Giannis’ future in Milwaukee feels genuinely uncertain.
