Bucks showing interest in acquiring Hawks’ Dejounte Murray

The Milwaukee Bucks are among the many teams expressing interest in a trade for Atlanta Hawks guard Dejounte Murray, per Chris Haynes of Bleacher Report/TNT.Dejounte Murray

Murray is widely expected to be moved ahead of the Feb. 8 trade deadline. He has already been linked to the Los Angeles Lakers, San Antonio Spurs, New York Knicks, Brooklyn Nets, Philadelphia 76ers and Detroit Pistons.

Word is, he’s hopeful of being sent to a contender, and the Bucks certainly fit such a description.

Murray, 27, is averaging 21.0 points, 4.8 rebounds and 4.8 assists, shooting 47.1 percent from the field and 38 percent on 3-pointers. He is making $17.7 million after signing a four-year, $114 million extension with the Hawks in July.

A one-time All-Star, Murray was named to the 2017-18 All-Defensive Second Team and claimed the 2021-22 steals title. He carries NBA career averages of 14.6 points, 5.8 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 1.4 steals with the Spurs and Hawks.

As we relayed here, Atlanta seems to believe the Murray-Trae Young pairing “isn’t working” and has run its course.

He recently told Marc J. Spears of Andscape that he’s staying focused on the task at hand, as opposed to hearing his name being repeatedly mentioned on the rumor mill.

“I tell several people who I stand for as a person. That is who Dejounte is. As a man or person, however you want to put it, it’s not appropriate for me to talk about that or let that get in the way for my teammates,” Murray said, via Spears. “I love my teammates. My teammates love me. I’m not a GM, owner, an agent, none of those things. I’m a basketball player. I’m a hooper. So, I continue to learn, lead and work hard.”

The Bucks sit at 28-13 entering the weekend, good enough for second place in the Eastern Conference.
