Now that the Milwaukee Bucks have made a coaching change, it’s on to the roster.
And according to Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports, the Bucks are interested in trading for Atlanta Hawks guard Dejounte Murray and Toronto Raptors guard Bruce Brown. Both players are expected to be moved before the Feb. 8 trade deadline.
“Then there are the loftier targets, including Dejounte Murray and Bruce Brown Jr., sources said,” Fischer wrote. “For Milwaukee to get into the salary ballpark for either difference-maker, the Bucks would have to include Portis and his $11.7 million figure. This sequence of options is quite illustrative of how many front offices approach the deadline. Milwaukee is assessing the names who are on the market, their teams’ asking prices and how that player fits alongside (Giannis Antetokounmpo) and (Damian Lillard).”
The Bucks fired first-year coach Adrian Griffin and are hiring Doc Rivers, currently serving as an analyst with ESPN. Rivers will be taking over soon.
Meanwhile, Murray is averaging 21.4 points, 5.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 1.3 steals, shooting 47 percent from the field and 39.0 percent on 3-pointers. He is making $17.7 million.
Murray also has been linked to the Los Angeles Lakers, New York Knicks and Brooklyn Nets.
Then there’s Brown, who was acquired by the Raptors in last week’s Pascal Siakam trade with the Indiana Pacers. Brown is averaging 11.9 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.9 assists, shooting 48 percent from the floor and 32 percent on threes. He’s making $22 million, with a team option worth $23 million after the season.
Brown also has been linked to the Lakers, Knicks and Denver Nuggets, the team with which he won a championship last season.
Milwaukee (30-13) enters Wednesday night in first place in the Central Division and second in the Eastern Conference.
