Bucks trading Robin Lopez to Kings

The Milwaukee Bucks are trading reserve center Robin Lopez to the Sacramento Kings for cash considerations, per Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.Robin Lopez

Lopez is expected to be waived and enter free agency.

This is clearly a cost-cutting move by Milwaukee, which will open up a roster spot and save around $8.6 million in luxury tax. As relayed by ESPN’s Bobby Marks, this is the final trade deadline in which teams above the second tax apron can send out cash in deals.

The Kings didn’t need to send out a player or match salary, given that Lopez is on a one-year deal for the veteran’s minimum. They had an open roster spot to pull off the trade.

Lopez, 35, has appeared in 16 games this season, but most of it came in garbage time. He is the twin brother of Bucks starting center Brook Lopez.
