The Bulls are planning to attend the pro day of G League Ignite guard Scoot Henderson, per Daniel Greenberg of ChiSportUpdates, and this is interesting for several reasons.
First, Henderson is expected to be a top-three pick in the draft. Maybe even second behind French center Victor Wembanyama.
Second, because the Bulls don’t have a first-round pick.
So why are they bothering with Henderson’s pro day?
That, friends, is the question.
Are the Bulls planning to break up the talented trio of Zach LaVine, DeMar DeRozan and Nikola Vucevic?
Theres been talk that they just might.
But would any of those players entice the Hornets to give up the No. 2 pick, or the Trail Blazers to surrender No. 3?
Well, come to think of it, the Blazers might actually listen. They are trying to build a quick winner around star guard Damian Lillard. Drafting a player who plays Lillard’s position — such as Henderson — may send mixed singles.
But adding veteran — such as LaVine and another player — could give Lillard the idea that the Blazers are serious about trying to win more, and soon.
Granted, Lillard and LaVine would hardly put the Blazers over the top, but it’d be a step in the right direction. And perhaps more moves could follow.
You could also make a similar case for the Hornets, who already have LaMelo Ball and are looking to return to the playoff mix next season.
So the Bulls’ decision to attend Henderson’s pro day might result in … nothing. But it might mean something too. Namely, a fresh start for a team that could probably use one.
