Bulls may be done making moves this offseason

The Bulls have one roster spot left, but their next move may be to do absolutely nothing with it.

Chicago currently has 14 players on standard contracts after missing out on Jonathan Kuminga and Bennedict Mathurin, two young players the Bulls had shown interest in adding. Kuminga ultimately signed with the Timberwolves, while Mathurin landed with the Pelicans.

So what’s left? Well, not much.

Elias Schuster of NBA on SI noted that the Bulls could simply carry their open roster spot into the season. Teams aren’t required to carry 15 players, and there’s an argument that maintaining the flexibility makes more sense than signing someone just to fill a chair.

Cam Whitmore is one potentially interesting name after being waived by the Cavaliers. The 22-year-old former first-round pick would at least fit the profile of a young player Chicago could take a chance on during a rebuilding season.

But there’s no indication anything is imminent. Afte all, again, keeping the spot open could also help the Bulls later.

Chicago would have additional flexibility to participate in an in-season trade, potentially taking on another team’s unwanted salary while collecting an asset for its trouble.

That’s not particularly exciting in late August. Neither is signing the 15th-best player on your roster simply because you’re allowed to have one.

The Bulls have spent the offseason preaching patience. Apparently, that could apply to roster spot No. 15, too.
