Cam Whitmore didn’t take long to get Nuggets’ attention

Cam Whitmore apparently didn’t need much time to introduce himself to the Nuggets.

Denver’s new forward was among the players turning heads during the opening portion of training camp, according to Ryan Blackburn of Mile High Sports. That’s encouraging for both sides.

Whitmore arrived in Denver still trying to turn obvious physical ability into a consistent NBA role. He’s athletic, powerful and capable of scoring in bunches, but his first few seasons also produced questions about decision-making and where exactly he fits.

The Nuggets believe they can help answer them. Denver doesn’t need Whitmore to become the centerpiece of anything. Nikola Jokic remains fairly well established in that department.

What the Nuggets could use is another young, athletic scorer capable of providing energy and offense around their veteran core. Whitmore has always looked capable of doing exactly that.

The question has been whether he can do it consistently within a winning structure. Training camp won’t answer that after one practice. Still, first impressions count, and Whitmore apparently made a pretty good one.
