We know that Monty Williams is now a hot NBA coaching candidate after being fired by the Detroit Pistons, but does that make him a fit with the Cavaliers?
I have my doubts, as I said on 92.3 The Fan with Jeff Phelps and Dan Menningen (in for Andy Baskin). I also wrote as much in my latest Dribbles.
As for the Cavs and who they might hire … well, what’s the holdup? I discussed that and much more, and you can listen to it all here on The Fan website or in the player directly below.
Overall, the Cavs’ search remains a bit of a mystery, and there’s a sense they still want to interview more candidates — with perhaps Dallas Mavericks assistant Alex Jensen among them. Jensen has ties to the Cavs as the former head coach of the G League’s Charge. He was also an assistant under Quin Snyder with the Utah Jazz when Donovan Mitchell was there.
As far as anyone can tell, Mitchell is a fan of Jensen. So are the Cavs. But at this point, his candidacy is little more than pure speculation.
One thing we can safely assume is that James Borrego is a serious candidate, and he may be one in Detroit now, too. Borrego, the former Charlotte Hornets head coach, is an assistant with the New Orleans Pelicans. New Pistons GM Trajan Langdon (a former Cavs guard) came from New Orleans. So the connection is there.
Anyway, I try to make some sense of everything in my stop on The Fan and again, in the mid-June Dribbles. Check ’em both out for more.
