Hoops Wire Live: Cavs have two more scrimmages, er, games, and then real thing begins

It’s almost that time again. That’s right. The NBA playoffs. And the Cavaliers are entering as the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference.

That much you know. But before that, the Cavs have a couple of regular-season games (i.e., scrimmages). I discuss who I think is the ideal first-round matchup and a whole lot more on the latest Hoops Wire Live from 330 to Go. Watch here or in the video directly below.

Frankly, I think the Cavaliers (63-17) can go places. They won 16 straight games recently. They won 15 straight to start the season. They won 12 in a row in between. I choose to trust their entire body of work under first-year coach Kenny Atkinson.

There’s also the De’Andre Hunter trade. Between Hunter and Ty Jerome, I think the Cavs have two of the best reserves in the entire NBA. We all know about the Core Four of Donovan Mitchell, Darius Garland, Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen. But so often in the postseason, it’s about your depth.

With Hunter, Jerome, and others, the Cavs should have that covered.

Anyway, before we get to all that, we should take a minute to reflect on what this Cavaliers team has done already. What a season for the organization and its fans.

“I think you celebrate these moments,” Atkinson said. “We’ll talk about going forward, what that looks like. But today, tonight, we celebrate, and I think the guys are super happy in that locker room. I think we got out of the gate so quick. We got ahead of it early and then we had some ups and downs the last month. But really proud of the guys, proud of the organization.

“It’s hard to win 63 games in this league. It’s hard to be the first seed. We all know that. So great accomplishment. Obviously, we are hungry for more.”
