It’s safe to say the Cavaliers barely competed in their Game 1 loss to the Boston Celtics. They tried, but trying won’t be enough for the Cavs these days, as I wrote in the latest Dribbles.
You gotta try AND deliver. Then you will need to hope the team that finished with the NBA’s best record slips up a little.
So do the Cavs have a chance? Are they just going to be all clunky as they were in the first round against the Magic? Can they even compete on the road? We discuss all that and a whole lot more on the latest Cavs on the Break podcast. Listen here on Apple Music or in either player directly below. (I also have more thoughts below.)
Personally, I’m wondering if the Cavaliers don’t get swept. It seems like they have had very little going beyond Donovan Mitchell, at least offensively, for the entire playoffs. Oh, and Jarrett Allen, and he’s hurt and out of the lineup. I can’t see him returning if that rib is broken and not just “contused.”
Darius Garland has been just OK in the playoffs. Evan Mobley has been fantastic defensively — but unreliable on offense. Max Strus can’t knock down a shot, which is why they brought him to Cleveland in the first place, for these very moments. So yeah, it could be a quick series unless the Cavs finally find a way to pull it together.
