Well, it’s that time again. No, not the NBA season. It’s the Cavaliers’ offseason, and some will tell you that’s the most important season of them all.
It’s not really — because everything you do now sets you up for the real thing, on the floor. For the Cavs, it started with hiring a coach in Kenny Atkinson. It included making a draft pick in former Cal wing Jaylon Tyson (related Dribbles). And now, it means getting Donovan Mitchell signed to a contract extension.
After that, it’s other big decisions. Do you keep Darius Garland? What about Jarrett Allen? Or how about the players on the bench — Isaac Okoro, Caris LeVert, Georges Niang? Or maybe the Cavs just run it back with a new coach. Hey, the possibility very much exists.
I discuss all that and a whole lot more in the latest Hoops Wire Show from 330 To Go. You can check it out here on YouTube or simply in the video directly below.
People ask me all the time what I think about Atkinson, the draft and looming free agency. And I’ll give the same answer here that I always give them — we’ll see.
I know that’s not the answer people want, but there’s no sense in making sweeping judgments or wild predictions today. We have to see how it all plays out on the court. As I said in the video, I trust that the franchise is doing what it believes are in its best interest. This is their livelihood. They know more than we do about what they like and what moves are possible.
So when it comes to the Cavaliers, that’s just it. We’ll see. Enjoy the video and thanks for following along.
