It’s been nearly a week since the Cavaliers’ season came to an end in the NBA playoffs. And so far, it’s been all quiet in terms of actual moves.
As of this moment, J.B. Bickerstaff is still the coach. Of course, he’s still involved in plenty of rumors when it comes to his future with the organization — as are Jarrett Allen, Donovan Mitchell, Darius Garland and probably a few others who we’re forgetting about.
I joined Andy Baskin and Jeff Phelps on 92.3 The Fan in Cleveland to try to break it all down, and frankly, I think the pairing of Allen and Evan Mobley in the frontcourt deserves more time. I also suspect Mitchell will stick around.
Anyway, you can listen to my entire conversation on The Fan website or simply in the player directly below.
Also, in case you missed it, you can check out my nearly hour-long breakdown of the team and the offseason on the 330 to Go Hoops Wire Show.
Along with that, a source told Hoops Wire that Mitchell won’t be traded to the Lakers in the event he refuses to sign a contract extension.
Per our Ashish Mathur:
“A source told Hoops Wire that Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert ‘would never’ trade Mitchell to the Lakers.
“Mitchell doesn’t have a no-trade clause in his contract.
“One of the top scorers in the NBA, Mitchell is under contract for next season and has a $37 million player option for 2025-26. He is eligible to sign a four-year extension this summer and the Cavaliers will offer him a max extension of around $200 million.
“If Mitchell doesn’t sign an extension with the Cavaliers this offseason, the thought is that Cleveland will look to trade him before free agency in the summer of 2025.”
