To the surprise of no one, the Cavaliers are signing Pete Nance to an Exhibit 10 contract for training camp, a deal that is expected to land him back with the G League’s Cleveland Charge.
Along with Nance, the Cavs signed Jules Bernard, Nae’Qwan Tomlin and Gabe Osabuohien to camp deals, per Michael Scotto of HoopsHype.
Nance, of course, is the son of Cavs legend Larry Nance and brother of former Cavs forward Larry Nance Jr., now of the Hawks. Pete appeared in eight games with the Cavs last season and finished the year on a two-way contract. He spent most of his time as a rookie out of North Carolina (via Northwestern) with the Charge.
Nance, 24, is 6-foot-11 and scored the lone basket of his NBA career in the final game of the regular season, a loss to the Hornets. He went 1-of-3 from the field for three points.
With the Charge, he averaged 13.7 points, 8.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists, proving to be a proficient passer for a player his size.
Meanwhile, Bernard is the only other player among the aforementioned with NBA experience, appearing in 19 games with the Wizards last season. A 6-7 shooting guard, Bernard carries NBA career averages of 3.9 points, 1.4 rebounds and 37.9% shooting on 3-pointers.
The Cavaliers open training camp on Tuesday, Oct. 1. This year’s camp will be held at IMG Academy in Florida.
An Exhibit 10 contract is a non-guaranteed minimum-salary deal. It doesn’t count toward a team’s cap unless the player makes the final roster. It also can be converted to a two-way deal before the season begins or mean guaranteed money if a player is waived and then stays on the G League club for at least 60 days.
