Cavs Continue To Seek Improvements Ahead Of Trade Deadline

It’s possible that the Cavaliers make a trade ahead of today’s deadline, but they are unwilling to move one of their key rotational pieces, sources told Hoops Wire.Koby Altman

Chris Fedor of Cleveland.com earlier reported something similar, writing that “it’s not impossible for Cavs to add another high-salary guy.”

That would be tough to do, but not impossible, Fedor noted, suggesting the Cavs could make a deal happen in a multi-team trade.

But the bottom line is, after trading for Caris LeVert, another trade is within the realm of possibilities. So is adding a player via the buyout market or G League after the deadline.

Basically, Cavs president of basketball operations Koby Altman would like to find another player to add to their depth and prove to be a fit — without messing with the core that has lifted them to becoming the Eastern Conference’s best surprise. (Related dribbles.)

For starters, the Cavs have been linked to available Celtics point guard Dennis Schroder. The Bulls and Bucks are also interested in Schroder, and the Cavs could try to land him just to keep their Central Division foes from doing the same.

They have also been linked to Magic guard/forward Terrence Ross and several others.

As one rival GM told Hoops Wire after the LeVert trade, “We very much would consider them a team that remains active and a team looking to improve still.”

Along with looking to make a deal, Cleveland seems likely to part ways with guard Kevin Pangos following the trade deadline. He could be part of a trade, of course — though reports suggest Pangos will head back to Europe by next week.
