Cavs’ Darius Garland Enters Health And Safety Protocol

Cavaliers point guard Darius Garland has entered the NBA’s health and safety protocols, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN. The Cavs have since confirmed the news. Darius Garland

Garland, 21, is 6-foot-1 and having a breakout season for the fast-rising Cavs, who have won seven of eight and sit in fifth place in the Eastern Conference.

Along the way, Garland is averaging career-highs of 19.5 points and 7.3 assists. He stands a good chance to be among the All-Stars for this season’s game in Cleveland.

Like most teams, the Cavs have been hit hard with positive tests. The list includes starting center Jarrett Allen, forward Evan Mobley and guard/forward Isaac Okoro, among others. Mobley and Okoro have since exited the protocol.

While the NBA is following CDC guidelines and shortening the amount of time players must stay in the protocol from 10 days, Garland stands a chance to miss at least a handful of games.

He could be back sooner, however, should he return two negative tests in a 24-hour span.
