CLEVELAND — Cavaliers guard Donovan Mitchell exited Monday’s 113-103 home win over the Pelicans with a left groin strain midway through the second half and did not return.
Mitchell had 11 points on 3-of-9 shooting at the time of the injury. He did later rejoin the bench to cheer on his teammates.
In a strange twist, the Cavs went on a 15-0 run shortly after Mitchell went down, though he had been out for a few minutes at that point.
Darius Garland led the Cavs with a game-high 30 points and 11 assists, including a late 3-pointer to basically seal the deal. Jarrett Allen added 24 points and 11 rebounds for a double-double of his own.
Mitchell, 26, is averaging 28.8 points, 4.9 assists, and 3.9 rebounds, shooting 49 percent from the field in 39 games entering Monday. Most notably, he holds the Cavs franchise record with 71 points, compiled in a win over the Bulls on Jan. 2.
