Cavs’ Donovan Mitchell Game-Time Decision For Tuesday After Reaggravating Ankle Injury

Cavaliers guard Donovan Mitchell said he will play in Game 5 despite reaggravating his left ankle injury. But one report says he’ll be a game-time decision.

Per ESPN’s Shams Charania, Mitchell’s status for Game 5 Tuesday in Cleveland is up in the air. The Cavs trail their Eastern Conference semifinal series against the Indiana Pacers by a 3-1 count. So Cleveland must win three straight or it’s season over.

Mitchell exited Game 4 at halftime with the injury. At the time, the Cavs trailed by 41 points.

“I will be good. I will see you Tuesday,” Mitchell told Chris Fedor of Cleveland.com.

Fedor reported that Mitchell smiled as he said it, while leaving Indiana’s Gainbridge Fieldhouse with his father. Mitchell didn’t offer details on how the injury occurred, Fedor added. 

As for the MRI, Mitchell was having it “just to make sure he is good,” Fedor wrote.

Cavs coach Kenny Atkinson first noted that Mitchell would undergo an MRI on Monday. 

“He obviously couldn’t go in the second half. We’ll see what the MRI says,” Atkinson said.

Mitchell scored 48 points in the Cavs’ Game 2 loss, following that with 43 in their Game 3 win in Indiana. He exited Game 4 with 12 points on 3-of-11 shooting.
