AKRON, Ohio — Cavaliers guard Donovan Mitchell and center Jarrett Allen practiced fully on Monday, though point guard Darius Garland was out, coach J.B. Bickerstaff told reporters in Independence.
Mitchell sat out of the Cavs’ loss to the Pacers on Saturday with hamstring soreness. Garland has missed each of the last two games with a hamstring issue, while Allen has yet to play after missing the entire preseason with an ankle injury.
Garland did take to the court for a workout after practice, relayed Chris Fedor of Cleveland.com.
Usually, a player has to go through a full practice before coaches and the medical staff clear them to play, but that’s not a hard rule. It’s usually a case-by-case basis.
So by the sounds of things, Mitchell will be good to go and Allen is set to make his debut as the Cavs get ready for a back-to-back playoff rematch vs. the Knicks, which tips off Tuesday in Cleveland. The teams meet again on Wednesday at New York.
For now, Garland’s status remains up in the air, it appears.
Bickerstaff told reporters that if any or all of the three starters play vs. the Knicks, the Cavs will be mindful of their minutes, given that we are less than five games in for an 82-game season.
