Cavs’ Donovan Mitchell joins rare company with new Adidas deal

Donovan Mitchell signed one major extension with the Cavaliers this summer. Now he’s signed another one with Adidas.

Mitchell has agreed to a new multiyear contract with the shoe company that will extend his signature line through the D.O.N. Issue 10, according to Shams Charania of ESPN. The deal will make Mitchell just the seventh active NBA player to reach 10 signature shoes with the same brand. Financial terms weren’t reported.

There’s another component of the agreement that means considerably more than sneakers. Adidas will expand its support of Greenwich Country Day, Mitchell’s former school in Connecticut, providing additional educational resources for students from underserved communities, as Grant Afseth of Cavs Roundtable details.

Mitchell’s relationship with Adidas dates to before his rookie season in 2017. His first signature shoe debuted two years later, with D.O.N. standing for his “Determination Over Negativity” motto.

He and his family also pledged $12 million to Greenwich Country Day in 2020 to fund scholarships and a new gym.

The Cavs star is entering his 10th NBA season and fifth in Cleveland after signing a four-year, $273 million maximum extension in July. So business appears to be pretty good for Donovan Mitchell. On and off the court.
