Cavs’ Donovan Mitchell To Have MRI On Ankle Injury Monday

Cavaliers guard Donovan Mitchell exited Sunday’s embarrassment of a 129-109 road loss to the Pacers and it wasn’t because his feelings were hurt. It was because of his left ankle.Donovan Mitchell, Kenny Atkinson, Cavaliers, Cavs, NBA

And according to Cavs coach Kenny Atkinson, Mitchell will have an MRI on that ankle on Monday to help determine his status moving forward.

“Left ankle injury,” Atkinson told reporters in Indianapolis. “He’ll get an MRI (on) Monday.”

Atkinson added that he had “no idea” how Mitchell suffered the injury.

“He obviously couldn’t go in the second half. We’ll see what the MRI says,” Atkinson said.

The Cavs trail the best-of-seven Eastern Conference semifinal series by a 3-1 count. So they must win three straight to keep their season alive.

They were totally dominated in every facet in Game 4 after winning Game 3 in convincing fashion.

“They dominated with their force,” Atkinson said. “They raised their game to another level and we didn’t match it.”

The Cavs never led and trailed by as many as 44 points before a fourth quarter of nothing more than garbage time.

“For whatever reason, their force was greater in every sense,” Atkinson said. “… It was really kind of a physical domination.”

No matter, the Cavs finished 64-18 with winning streaks of 15, 12, and 16 games during the regular season. Now, they are aiming to put together their most vital winning streak yet.

‘We got two of the next three at home (should the Cavs win Games 5 and 6),” Atkinson said. “Gotta get the next one and see if we can come back here for a Game 6.”

Midway through the third quarter and the Cavs trailing by 34 points, Mitchell was officially declared “doubtful” to return.

Mitchell scored 48 points in Game 2, followed by 43 in Game 3. He exited Sunday’s game with 12 points on 3-of-11 shooting.
