Cavs Explore Market on Caris LeVert, Place Call on Hawks’ Bogdan Bogdanovic

The Cavaliers continue to search for small forwards, continue to gauge the market on Caris LeVert, and seem to have some idea of where they stand ahead of Thursday’s NBA trade deadline, sources told Hoops Wire.Caris LeVert

And per Matt Moore of Action Network, they have also made a call to the Hawks to discuss forward Bogdan Bogdanovic.

As for LeVert, the Cavs have not decided on whether he will remain in Cleveland beyond the deadline, sources said. As is always the case in these scenarios, it will come down to what Cleveland can get in return.

Along with Bogdanovic, the Cavs have been strongly linked to Trail Blazers guard/forward Josh Hart, as well as the likes of Timberwolves shooting guard Malik Beasley, Mavericks guard/forward Tim Hardaway Jr., Knicks forward Cam Reddish and a few others.

Hart and Reddish remain on the Cavs’ radar, the others not so much, sources said.

That said, one opposing GM told Hoops Wire that he views Bogdanovic as perhaps the best fit of all the names linked to the Cavs in recent weeks.

“He may be tough to pry away, because he’s valued (by the Hawks),” the GM said. “But he is exactly what Cleveland needs.”

Bogdanovic, 30, began the year on the injured list but has been steady since, averaging 15.0 points on 43 percent shooting, including 37 percent on 3-pointers, in 29 games. The Hawks have indeed been open to listening to offers, though it’s hard to know if anyone can meet their asking price.

Bogdanovic is making $18 million this year and has a player option for the same for 2023-24.

As for the Cavs and LeVert, again, the situation remains very much up in the air. LeVert, 28, has an expiring $18.8 million deal. That, his play and his positive approach and personality make him the ideal trade candidate at this time of year.

“The Cavaliers have put together enough offers to have a healthy idea of where LeVert’s value is at the moment,” Moore wrote.

LeVert is averaging 12.4 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.8 assists, shooting 41 percent from the field and 38 percent on threes in 50 games.
