Last year, the Hawks advanced to the Eastern Conference finals. This year, the Cavaliers are the pleasant surprise of the NBA season.
So it’s no surprise that both teams topped draft expert Chad Ford’s rankings of teams with top players younger than the age of 25.
The Cavs enter the stretch run of the regular season in the thick of the Eastern Conference race. They boast Darius Garland (age 22), Jarrett Allen (23) and rookie Evan Mobley (20). That’s basically a Big Three of talented, young guns.
The Hawks (28-30) are further back in the standings, but have played better lately. They seem to be saving their best for when it means the most. They boast Trae Young (23), John Collins (24) and rookie Onyeka Okongwu (21).

The Cavs and the Hawks. Or is it the Hawks and the Cavs? Either way, it’s clearly true that both have promising futures and pretty decent presents. There’s a lot more to both teams than the three players Ford listed for each. But each set of terrific trios is a darn good place to start.
