It’s been 15 years since LeBron James left Cleveland for South Beach. Now, finally, the Cavs and Heat meet in the playoffs for the first time.
And let’s be honest — this one’s got juice.
Miami clawed out of the play-in, becoming the first 10-seed ever to reach the main bracket. The Heat did it by winning twice on the road, including a 123-114 victory over the Hawks on Friday night.
Tyler Herro and Andrew Wiggins nearly posted triple-doubles. Bam Adebayo filled the box score. The Heat, at 37-45 in the regular season, suddenly look like… the Heat.
“It’s validation,” Adebayo said. “Everyone knows when you get to this point, anything can happen.”
Meanwhile, the Cavaliers have been waiting.
They earned it — finishing 64-18 and three games ahead of the defending champion Celtics in the Eastern Conference standings. But their “reward” was a week of uncertainty while the play-in played out.
That ends Sunday at Rocket Arena (7 p.m. EST, TNT).
“It’s been excellent,” Jarrett Allen said of the rest. “But the biggest thing is the lack of prep time.”
Donovan Mitchell is back after a precautionary five-game absence. Darius Garland and Evan Mobley are fresh. Coach Kenny Atkinson ramped up the intensity in practice to keep the edge sharp.
The Cavs were a league-best 34-7 at home. Now they need that edge to carry over, quickly.
“It feels like it’s been forever since we’ve played,” Max Strus said. “There’s no way to know how it’ll affect us until we get out there.”
The Heat are coming in hot. The Cavs are coming in cold — but rested, healthy, and ready.
Game 1. Sunday. Cleveland. Let’s go.
