Cavs, Pelicans Talk Josh Hart Sign-And-Trade

The Cavaliers and Pelicans have had some talks about a potential sign-and-trade deal centered on New Orleans shooting guard Josh Hart, according to Chris Fedor of Cleveland.com.Josh Hart

Hart is a restricted free agent, and the Cavs could only offer him their midlevel exception. The Pelicans presumably would match such an offer.

Cleveland has been relatively quiet in free agency, with its lone move being to retain center Jarrett Allen on a five-year deal worth $100 million, per Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

Hart, 26, is 6-foot-5 and averaged 9.2 points and a career-high 8.0 rebounds in 47 games last season. Recent talk around the NBA suggests he would like to move on from the Pelicans.

He just completed his second season in New Orleans after spending his first two with the Lakers.

As Fedor noted, the Cavs were hoping to land a perimter shooter in free agency, and while they haven’t completely given up on the idea, many players who fit that description have already signed. So Cleveland may be moving on to other options.
