Cavs Sign Brandon Goodwin To 10-Day Contract

The Cavaliers have signed point guard Brandon Goodwin to a 10-day contract, according to the NBA’s official transactions log, via Luke Adams of Hoops Rumors.<a rel=

Goodwin, 26, is 6-foot-0 and has played in a total of 97 games with the Nuggets and Hawks. He carries career averages of 4.7 points and 1.6 assists.

The Cavs agreed to a trade with the Lakers for veteran point guard Rajon Rondo, but Rondo won’t be available until at least early next week. He is currently in the health and safety protocol.

So Goodwin could help provide some relief at the position if needed.

Forward Tre Scott and point guard Malik Newman are the Cavs’ lone two hardship exception players. The Goodwin signing indicates that one of those players won’t be re-signed, or worst case, that someone new is entering the protocol.

Most recently, Goodwin has been playing for the Westchester Knicks of the G League, averaging 15.3 points, 7.0 assists and 5.1 rebounds to go along with 1.9 steals.

He reached agreement with the Raptors earlier this month, but never joined the team, reportedly because he failed the COVID-19 screening process. Given that he has signed with the Cavs. he is likely good to go now.

Point guard Darius Garland and small forward Cedi Osman are the only two Cavs remaining in the protocol at this writing.

The Cavs sent guard/forward Denzel Valentine to the Lakers in exchange for Rondo.
