Cavs To Sign Luke Kornet, Justin Anderson To 10-Day Deals

The Cavaliers intend to sign center Luke Kornet and guard/forward Justin Anderson to 10-day contracts, via the hardship exception, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.Luke Kornet

Seven Cavs players are currently in the NBA’s health and safety protocols, including center Jarrett Allen and guard/forward Isaac Okoro. Because of that, the league postponed their road game Sunday against the Hawks.

Kornet, 26, is 7-foot-2 and played 18 games with the Celtics last season, averaging 4.4 points and 2.9 rebounds. He has also spent time with the Bulls and Knicks, appearing in 133 games overall since going undrafted in 2017.

Anderson, 28, is 6-5 and was selected by the Mavericks with the No. 21 overall pick in 2015. He has been well-traveled ever since, currently playing with the G League’s Fort Wayne Mad Ants.

Along with that, Anderson has spent time with the Nets, Hawks, 76ers and Raptors, as well a few other G League stops. He carries NBA career averages of 5.2 points and 2.5 rebounds in 226 games.

The Cavs (19-12) are coming off a road win against the Bucks and have won six straight overall.

Teams have to be granted hardship exceptions by the league, but once they do, it allows them to exceed the 15-man roster limit. They must have four players who are sick or injured for longer than two weeks to qualify.
