The Celtics and Wizards seemingly spent all Wednesday trying to arrange a trade that would send Kristaps Porzingis to Boston, and it appears they pulled it off at the final hour.
After a three-team trade between the Celtics, Wizards and Clippers fell apart, the Celtics and Wizards regrouped and pulled in the Grizzlies. As first relayed by Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, the new framework of the trade will send Porzingis to the Celtics, Celtics guard Marcus Smart to the Grizzlies, and Grizzlies guard Tyus Jones to the Wizards.
Along with that, Washington will receive the No. 25 overall pick in Thursday’s NBA Draft from Memphis, as well as a 2024 first-rounder that the Grizzlies acquired via the Warriors. The Wizards’ are also receiving the Celtics’ No. 35 overall pick, as well as Celtics forward Danilo Gallinari and center Mike Muscala, per Wojnarowski.
Earlier in the day, the Celtics reportedly agreed to send guard Malcolm Brogdon, the reigning Sixth Man of the Year, to the Clippers. But LA reportedly pulled out over Brogdon injury concerns, as we relayed here. That deal would have landed forward Marcus Morris and guard/forward Amir Coffey with the Wizards, per reports.
Instead, they are getting the steady Jones and the No. 25 pick, as new team president Michael Winger works on resetting the roster and shedding large salaries. Earlier in the week, the Wizards agreed to a trade that will send star guard Bradley Beal to the Suns. Also, forward Kyle Kuzma declined his $13 million player option to become a restricted free agent.
Washington is completing a three-way deal with Boston and Memphis that will send guard Tyus Jones to the Wizards, sources tell ESPN. https://t.co/tQgoW60nQz
