Celtics active ahead of trade deadline, interested in Jazz’s Kelly Olynyk

The Boston Celtics are remaining active ahead of the trade deadline, seeking depth at nearly every position, per Michael Scotto of HoopsHype.Kelly Olynyk

They have expressed interest in Utah Jazz forward Kelly Olynyk, a former Celtic, as well as Chicago Bulls center Andre Drummond and Washington Wizards guard Delon Wright, among others, per Scotto.

“The Celtics are looking to package some of their minimum contract players at the end of the rotation and draft pick compensation to bolster their bench heading into the playoffs, league sources told HoopsHype,” Scotto wrote.

This is the latest of many reports that Boston would like to shore up its bench as it gets ready for a possible deep playoff run. Without question, the Celtics are among the championship contenders after losing Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Finals to the Miami Heat last season.

This season, they’ve added reinforcements such as forward Kristaps Porzingis and guard Jrue Holiday to All-Star wings Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown. But apparently, the Celtics don’t yet view themselves as a finished product.

Drummond would likely cost them less than Olynyk or Wright, Scotto noted. The NBA trade deadline is Thursday.
