Celtics Signing Lonnie Walker IV To Camp Deal

The Boston Celtics are signing guard Lonnie Walker IV to an Exhibit 10 training contract, per multiple reports.Lonnie Walker IV, Celtics, Nets, NBA

Walker, 25, is 6-foot-4 appeared in 58 games with the Brooklyn Nets last season and averaged 9.7 points, 2.2 rebounds, 1.3 assists, shooting 38.4% on 3-pointers.

He recently was among several veteran free agents who worked out for the Sacramento Kings.

Walker has also spent time with the San Antonio Spurs and Los Angeles Lakers since entering the NBA in 2018. He’s gained a reputation for being a sparkplug off the bench in each of those stops.

Meanwhile, the world champion Celtics are already pretty stacked. Along with starters Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, Kristaps Porzingis, Jrue Holiday and Derrick White, they feature a deep and talented bench. So Walker will have his work cut out for him.

But he’s hit about 40% of his catch-and-shoot threes for his career and is athletic enough to drive and finish at the rim. With all that in mind, it’s somewhat surprising that Walker has lasted until late August as an unrestricted free agent.

An Exhibit 10 contract is a non-guaranteed minimum-salary deal. It doesn’t count toward a team’s cap unless the player makes the final roster. It also can be converted to a two-way deal before the season begins or mean guaranteed money if a player is waived and then stays on the G League club for at least 60 days.
