Celtics Not Interested In Donovan Mitchell, But Keeping Eye On Rivals

While there will be plenty of trade interest in Jazz guard Donovan Mitchell, don’t expect the Celtics to be among them.Donovan Mitchell

As relayed by Brian Robb of MassLive, the Celtics aren’t likely interested in Mitchell deal — though they will be keeping a watchful eye on contenders. That includes the Heat, who reportedly do have an interest.

Mitchell is supposedly at least a little available. The Jazz aren’t necessarily shopping him, but they willing to listen to overtures, per Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

“Change is inevitable in the NBA,” Jazz GM Justin Zanuck said at a press conference over the weekend. “I’m not trying to be cryptic or anything else, but Donovan is on our roster and he’s a very, very important part of what we’re trying to do.

“Things evolve in the NBA, so I couldn’t sit here and say anybody is [untouchable]. We’re trying to build a championship team, but there’s no intent [to trade Mitchell], at all.”

Along with the Heat, the Knicks have been linked to Mitchell. Meanwhile, the Celtics just acquired guard Malcolm Brogdon in a trade with the Pacers, and he is set to join the likes of Jaylen Brown, Jayson Tatum and the rest of the reigning Eastern Conference champs.

“The Celtics ideal scenario would be a lesser East squad such as the Knicks to put themselves in play for the high scoring guard, keeping Miami from firmly re-establishing themselves as a top contender in the East with another star acquisition,” Robb wrote.

The Hawks and Mavericks are others who were linked to Mitchell by Robb, though at this point, it appears the Jazz very well could keep him.

Mostly, the entire league seems to be on hold as team executives look to see what becomes of Nets star Kevin Durant and his trade request.

Once the Durant situation is resolved, teams will be more likely to know who and what is available in exchange for players such as Mitchell.
