Celtics Waiving Justin Champagnie

The Celtics are waiving guard/forward Justin Champagnie, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.Justin Champagnie

Champagnie, 22, had a $50k guarantee on his contract if he had remained on the roster past Tuesday. He signed a two-year deal for a minimum salary with Boston in April, appearing in two regular-season games and four playoff games.

Champagnie could return to the Celtics or end up with another team, even on a two-way deal, and make more money than he would’ve had he stayed with Boston.

He spent part of last season with the Sioux Falls Skyforce of the G League, compiling averages of 18.2 points and 8.0 rebounds.

Along with that, he appeared in three games with the Raptors after signing a non-guaranteed two-year deal over the summer. That came after playing 36 games with the Raptors as a rookie in 2021-22.

Champagnie, the twin brother of Spurs forward Julian Champagnie, carries NBA career averages of 2.2 points and 1.9 rebounds.

As a collegian, he became the only player in Pitt history to lead the team in scoring as both a freshman and sophomore.
