Another championship looks to be out of reach for LeBron James with the Lakers, so perhaps he could use another team.
It sounds ridiculous, the idea of the Lakers trading James, but that is what former NBA power forward Charles Oakley indicated probably needs to happen if James wants another title.
“He needs a ring and he might have to leave to get one,” Oakley said on Shannon Sharpe’s Club Shay Shay. “I really like Phoenix.”
James, 37, probably really likes the Suns, too. And if not “like,” he undoubtedly respects them. They are, after all, the defending Western Conference champions and as of Saturday, own the NBA’s best record.
James is also tight with Suns point guard Chris Paul. But that’s about as far as that possibility goes. The Suns like their current lineup featuring Paul, Devin Booker, Deandre Ayton, Mikal Bridges and others.
Basically, it’s hard to envision a James trade ever becoming something either team would pursue. This despite the fact the Lakers began the season as the oldest team in NBA history and have yet to show any signs of true contention.
No matter, you can watch Oakley’s full take on James in the video below.
