Chris Mullin, Bryan Colangelo linked to club in Rome

Chris Mullin may be headed to Rome.

Not to play, obviously.

The Warriors legend and Basketball Hall of Famer is reportedly set to join the board of BC Roma, a new basketball club that also could feature former NBA executive Bryan Colangelo in a prominent role.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Colangelo has emerged as the leading candidate to become the club’s president. Former Mavericks executive Donnie Nelson is also involved in the project.

So yes, there are a lot of familiar NBA names floating around a basketball operation in Italy.

And there’s an even bigger one. Lakers star Luka Doncic is expected to serve as a public face of the organization and become involved through his 77X brand.

Rather than holding an ownership stake, Doncic would reportedly serve as a technical sponsor, given uncertainty about whether the NBA would approve an active player owning part of another professional basketball club.

Mullin, 63, spent 16 seasons in the NBA and was a five-time All-Star with the Warriors. He was also a member of the legendary 1992 U.S. Olympic Dream Team before later moving into NBA front-office work.

Colangelo, meanwhile, previously ran basketball operations for the Suns, Raptors and 76ers.

BC Roma also is reportedly building a relationship with soccer club AS Roma as it attempts to establish itself in the city.

Where exactly all of this leads, well, we can’t say for sure.

But Mullin, Colangelo, Nelson and Doncic connected to the same basketball project in Rome?
