Brandon Ingram won’t be ready for the start of the season with the Clippers.
Interim president of basketball operations Trent Redden said Monday that doctors discovered a partially torn right Achilles tendon while performing surgery on Ingram’s heel in May, according to Ben Golliver of ESPN. The injury had not previously been disclosed, and there is no timetable for Ingram’s return.
“It wasn’t until we got our hands on [Ingram] here that we started to see where he was at with his progression,” Redden said. “He won’t be ready for the start of the season, and we’ll reevaluate when we get there.”
Ingram said his recovery is a “week-by-week thing.” He expects to spend little time participating in training camp, though he has begun getting back on the court.
The Clippers acquired Ingram and Gradey Dick from the Raptors earlier this month in the trade that sent Kawhi Leonard to Toronto. Ingram averaged 21.5 points, 5.6 rebounds and 3.7 assists last season, but missed the final two games of the Raptors’ first-round loss to the Cavaliers because of the heel injury.
Redden also said Bradley Beal will miss the start of camp because of right knee inflammation.
