Clippers Officially Sign Josh Primo to Two-Way Deal

The Clippers have signed free agent guard Josh Primo to a two-way contract, the team announced.

Primo was released by the Spurs last season and is suspended by the NBA for “conduct detrimental to the league” after an investigation into the matter later found that he “engaged in inappropriate and offensive behavior by exposing himself to women,” according to a statement from the league. 

News regarding Primo’s broke last year, as a former Spurs sports psychologist alleged that the shooting guard exposed himself in front of her.

The former Spurs employee had sued the team and Primo over the incidents, and the complaint was settled out of court.

The suit stated Primo “repeatedly exposed himself up to nine times in total to Dr. Cauthen during individual private sessions, despite her numerous complaints about Primo’s improper sexual conduct to the organization’s leadership.” 

After being released by the Spurs last October, Primo told ESPN in a statement that he was dealing with previous trauma and had been looking for help since struggling with his mental health.

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported that since then, the 20-year-old has been engaged in ongoing therapy and has undergone evaluation with specialists who consulted with the Clippers — and therefore the organization feels comfortable giving him a second chance. 

Primo was selected by the Spurs with the 12th overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, and averaged 5.8 points, 2.3 rebounds, 1.6 assists on 37 percent shooting in 50 appearances (16 starts) his rookie season.

For the 2023-24 season, Primo will be ineligible to play in the Clippers’ first four games because he still has to serve his suspension.

As the NBA said in a statement Friday that his behavior “does not conform to league standards and warrants discipline.”
