Clippers Would Like NBA 3-Point Leader Luke Kennard to Shoot More

Clippers shooting guard Luke Kennard leads the NBA in 3-point percentage at a career-high clip of .489. But he’s averaging just 4.2 attempts per game and is tied for 106th in 3-point attempts.Luke Kennard

So it’s no surprise that the Clippers wouldn’t mind if he suddenly becomes a little more aggressive.

“He doesn’t want to be selfish,” coach Tyronn Lue said, via Janis Carr of the Orange County Register. “I’m not saying other guys are selfish, but like, if he takes two or three shots in a row, he’s probably looking to move it. So, when he’s on the floor, he has to take those shots.”

Kennard indicated it’s his nature to always try to hit the open man — but added it may not hurt to look for his own shot a little more, too.

“There’s definitely opportunities where I can be a little bit more aggressive, maybe come to the ball a little bit more,” Kennard said, via Carr. “But I’ve said it before, I just want to keep it simple. Make the right team play and let the game just kind of flow, and just see what happens.”

With all the attention on star forwards Kawhi Leonard and Paul George, the Clippers seem to think it will be the other guys, the “role” players who will get them to where they want to go. That’s where players such as Kennard come in.

“It’s fun playing with them. Being out there with them,” Kennard said. “I feel like I’m definitely getting a lot more open shots than I have in my career so far.”
