Duke Star Cooper Flagg Declares For NBA Draft

Duke star freshman Cooper Flagg, widely projected as the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, has officially declared.Cooper Flagg, Duke, NBA Draft, NCAA

The announcement came via the Duke men’s basketball program and a video shared on Flagg’s personal Instagram account.

Flagg, a 6-foot-9 forward, delivered one of the most dominant seasons by a college freshman in recent memory. He averaged 19.2 points, 7.5 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 1.4 steals and 1.4 blocks per game while starting all 37 games for the Blue Devils. He shot 48.1% from the field, 38.5% from three-point range and 84.0% from the free-throw line.

Flagg helped lead Duke to a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament and a trip to the Final Four. He earned a host of national accolades, including consensus first-team All-American honors, ACC Player of the Year, and the Naismith College Player of the Year award.

Though not considered a generational prospect on the level of 2023 No. 1 pick Victor Wembanyama, Flagg is widely expected to be the top selection in June’s draft. The Utah Jazz, Washington Wizards, and Charlotte Hornets each hold a 14.0% chance of securing the No. 1 pick in the lottery, which will be held next month. The New Orleans Pelicans (12.5%), Philadelphia 76ers (10.5%), Brooklyn Nets (9.0%), and Toronto Raptors (7.5%) follow in the lottery standings.

Flagg becomes the third underclassman from Duke to declare for the draft this spring, joining teammates Kon Knueppel and Tyrese Proctor.

The 2025 NBA Draft is scheduled for June 26–27.
