As the Sacramento Kings continue to focus on building around De’Aaron Fox, rival teams are keeping a close eye on the situation, per Sam Amick of The Athletic.
While Fox has not requested a trade, sources tell Amick there’s a growing sense of expectation in league circles that he could become available sooner rather than later — likely in the summer, rather than before the February 6 trade deadline.
Several teams have emerged as key suitors should Fox hit the market. The San Antonio Spurs are generating the most buzz, with their interest in Fox becoming the loudest among contenders, Amick noted.
San Antonio has been active in its pursuit of young, dynamic talent, and Fox could be the centerpiece to accelerate their rebuild. Meanwhile, the Miami Heat and Los Angeles Lakers supposedly remain in the mix, looking to add more firepower to their backcourts, with Fox’s scoring and playmaking abilities fitting their respective needs.
Also lurking in the background are the Orlando Magic and Houston Rockets, both of whom could join the fray if Fox becomes available, Amick reported.
The Magic, in particular, could view Fox as a way to add a proven leader to complement their young core. The Rockets, similarly, have shown a willingness to make bold moves as they continue to build a competitive roster around their promising talent.
Fox, who has emerged as one of the league’s premier point guards — averaging 26.8 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 6.2 assists this season — was a 2023 All-Star and an All-NBA Third Team selection.
Represented by Rich Paul, Fox can’t hit the free-agent market until 2026, so any move would likely come at a steep price.
But with the Kings continuing to shut down trade inquiries and prioritize roster improvement around him, Fox’s future in Sacramento remains one of the more intriguing storylines to watch as the league prepares for what could be a tumultuous summer.

I’m a D. Fox fan since that McDonalds All American game he played in HS. Hasn’t changed.
But I would take Suggs as my PG over Fox without hesitation. Suggs is a force on both ends. And on the offensive end, he’ll get the most out of your other great players. That is his focus. Magic better be careful.
