Derrick Favors to Sign Contract With G League

Veteran NBA forward/center Derrick Favors plans to sign a contract with the G League for the upcoming season, per Michael Scotto of HoopsHype.Derrick Favors

Favors, 32, can either sign with the G League and be assigned a team, enter the G League Draft (Oct. 28) or sign an Exhibit 10 contract with an NBA parent club and become an affiliate player.

“I still love the game. I love everything about it,” Favors told Scotto. “I love the whole process of working out, getting better, the weight room and conditioning, and the on-court work. … I’m 32. I want to keep paying until my body tells me I can’t play anymore. I’m playing until the wheels fall off.

“I still feel like I’ve got a lot more years left in me, and I still feel like I can compete at a high level. I still feel like I can help a team. I think I’ve shown in the past that I can adjust to any role that I’m in. I can come into the game on the offensive and defensive end. I can still do a lot of things out there on the court with the right team and the right situation to help a team either win a championship or be a mentor to a younger team.”

Favors is 6-foot-9 and spent most of last season as an unrestricted free agent. He did sign a 10-day deal with the Hawks in January, though he didn’t appear in a game.

His last full season came with the Thunder in 2021-22, when he made 39 appearances and averaged 5.3 points and 4.7 rebounds. His best run came with Utah from 2010-19.

Overall, Favors has compiled career averages of 10.6 points and 7.1 boards in 790 career NBA games. He worked out for at least the Trail Blazers and Warriors this past offseason.
