Hawks
Hawks owner Tony Ressler suggested he believed the team had underachieved this season, leading to sweeping changes in the front office and the hiring of Quin Snyder as coach.
Before that, the Hawks promoted Landry Fields to general manager and Kyle Korver to assistant GM.
“I can tell you this: Landry and Kyle are running a much better, much more collaborative front office,” Ressler told Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN. “That’s of huge importance to me because I think that’s how you get better. Having ownership, a front office, a coaching staff and the right roster — when all of those folks work well together, I think results improve. That was the objective and that’s why I made the change that I did.”
Former GM Travis Schlenk was moved into an advisory role, with former coach Nate McMillan being fired late last month.
“What I’ve always done is rely on people who know more than I do to run a business better than I could,” Ressler told Wojnarowski. “Who makes the decisions (now), it’s undoubtedly Landry with Kyle — with Quin. (They) are going to work beautifully together from what I can tell. I do believe we will make better decisions going forward than we have done in the past.”
- Ressler was also open during an in-depth interview with Lauren Williams of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. You can check out that full story here.
Bulls
The Bulls have converted the contract of point guard Carlik Jones from a two-way to a standard deal, the team announced in a release.
Jones is moving into the role vacated by Goran Dragic, who was waived and is now headed to the Bucks.
Jones appeared in five NBA games on 10-day hardship deals as a rookie last season, spending time with the Mavericks and Nuggets. He spent most of 2021-22 playing with the Texas Legends, the Mavs’ G League affiliate.
- The Bulls rank last in the NBA in 3-pointers attempted. “I think we need to take more 3s,” coach Billy Donovan told reporters after a loss to the Suns. “I think getting downhill and spraying it out when we can is important.”
Wizards
The Wizards have signed free agent point guard Jamaree Bouyea to a 10-day contract, the team announced in a press release.
Bouyea is a 6-foot-2 rookie and had been playing for the Sioux Falls Skyforce of the G League, averaging 18.9 points, 6.0 assists, and 5.2 rebounds.
This marks his second 10-day deal of the season, as he signed a 10-day deal with the Heat in February, appearing in four games. The Skyforce are Miami’s affiliate.
- Wizards fans voted in favor of the contract extension given to shooting guard Jordan Goodwin, as relayed by Albert Lee of SB Nation. That said, fans seem split on the overall direction of the team.
