Free agent guard Elfrid Payton has agreed to a contract with the G League, per Marc Stein of The Stein Line.
Payton, 28, is 6-foot.-3 and spent last season with the Suns, appearing in 50 games and averaging career-lows of 3.0 points and 2.0 assists, though was viewed as a floor leader who could still help an NBA team. Apparently now, he will try to work his back via the G League.
The No. 10 overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft, he has also spent time with the Magic (the team that drafted him), the Knicks and Pelicans. He carries career averages of 10.1 points, 5.7 assists and 4.0 rebounds, shooting 45 percent from the field.
Payton becomes the third NBA player to join the G League in the past week, joining guard/forward Andre Roberson (Oklahoma City Blue, full post) and guard/forward Tony Snell (Maine Celtics, full post).
